Known is seeking an Engineering Manager, ideally experienced in Golang, to lead a team of developers in shifting our existing infrastructure to international scale.

The Role

We're looking for a pioneer to lead a team of extremely passionate engineers in the development of our microservice infrastructure to one that can scale globally. You will demonstrate a strong command of the tech stack as a whole, a full understanding of how everything plugs together, and a focus on progress over perfection.

You’ll nurture and grow your talented team of engineers, while also setting the patterns for future success across teams. Our systems currently service tens of millions of subscribers each month and this role is instrumental in enabling us to reach billions. Architecture always evolves, and this role is key to ensuring we get those patterns right as we continue on our journey.

You’ll be working with a highly collaborative team of individuals who support one another in the best ways to do things, and aim to multiply each other by leveraging each other's skillsets. You care about the product and customers and are as passionate as a product manager, solving problems through shipping solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Demonstrating engineering excellence and best practice, bringing the team along on the journey.
  • Setting the strategy for the team.
  • Ensuring the team are held towards high standards with themselves.
  • Opening the doors for opportunities for our engineers to succeed and grow.

Collaborating with Product and Design

  • Engaging with Product to ideate on development of product strategy.
  • Capturing and documenting designs and solutions - architectural diagrams, acceptance criteria, API structures, etc.
  • Working closely with the Engineering team on our roadmap.

Coding

  • Working on backend services in Golang.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience with back-end development, preferably Go, but if not an appetite to pick it up.
  • Operational excellence - reliability, availability and performance are everything.
  • Cloud experience - e.g. AWS EC2 or GCP Compute, S3.
  • Containerisation familiarity - Docker. We’re also using Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing for the web - RESTful, gRPC, Postman.
  • Broad exposure to supporting cloud technologies - queues (e.g. Rabbit, SQS), databases (e.g. Postgres, Mongo, Redis).
  • Unit testing frameworks - we automate as much as we can.
  • All the usual supporting tools - git, CI/CD pipelines, Jira.
